Zelenskyy Says Trump Pushing Ukraine to Surrender, France Reels From Violence

French President Emmanuel Macron said the country felt anger and shame following widespread violence over the weekend and called for order to be restored. Protests in several cities descended into clashes between police and demonstrators, sparking some of France’s worst street violence in years, with looting and landmarks set on fire. The violence is raising alert levels across Europe, where elections will be held in at least half a dozen countries next year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Donald Trump of trying to pressure Kyiv into surrendering to Russia, escalating a week-long row with the US president. In an interview with Bloomberg in Kyiv, Zelenskyy also offered a new proposal to accede to Trump’s request to stop targeting Russian refineries, which was aimed at combating high diesel prices, in exchange for deliveries of more Patriot air-defense missiles. China nudged economic growth back into Beijing’s target range in the third quarter, in a surprise rebound powered by factory production and the artificial intelligence supercycle that are largely failing to feed into stronger domestic demand.
